TELECENTRIC LENS FIELD OF VIEW SELECTION FORM

This interactive tool will help you with quickly choosing the most suitable lens for your machine vision application.
Although most camera detectors are stated to be compliant with the active area dimensions of standard formats (1/2", 2/3", ...) lots of them are actually not. Moreover, some detectors happen to have the same diagonal as the standard would suggest, but the aspect ratio is much different than 3:4.
In other cases the object to inspect is circular or elongated. Here a complete coverage of the detector area is not necessary and some vignetting can be acceptable, provided the lens grants the necessary magnification and image resolution.

Using this form is very easy:

  1. Select the lens type:
    1. Matrix, if your detector's diagonal is less than 13 mm
    2. Line, if the application requires a line-scan camera (in that case, type "1" in the "horizontal number of pixels" box)
    3. Large, if the detector diagonal is larger than 11 mm
    4. UV, if the detector features a very tiny pixel size and you seek for very high resolution.
  2. Fill-in the camera detector parameters: pixel pitch (in micron), number of active pixels (horizontal and vertical)
  3. Select the object shape: rectangular (all the FOV is needed), elongated (for wide and thin objects) or circular
  4. Type the object's width or diameter

The lenses that best approach your needs will be displayed: by choosing a specific lens, you will make the FOV parameters pop out.
